Green Postage Discounts

As you would have noticed from our news page the Royal Mail will be introducing a Green postage discount system from the 1st April 2009 called Sustainable Mail(TM). We love the idea of going green, after all we pride ourselves in being a s green as we can. Sourcing from sustainable sources, using old overs stock for office printing, working out of recycled buildings! etc, etc. But I can’t help but think this may be to good to be true. Will the postage discount cover the extra cost for sustainable materials? how long will it be until recycled paper is no longer seen as the solution? Perhaps FSC will have something to say about it??

Of course this can only be a good thing encouraging posters to use green materials is a common goal we must all follow. It will be the only way our industry can go forward in these unprecendented times. However could there have been a better, more long term solution introduced?

I think all businesses should concentrate, for now, on the basics of being sustainable, reusing and not wasting. There are many businesses that still do nothing to help the environment but even small things count and if practices are put in place, it is easy for all staff to follow.
