Royal Mail update

Tuesday 22nd December 2009

The machineable letter products affected are as follows:

  • Mailsort 120 OCR
  • Mailsort 120 CBC
  • Mailsort 700 CBC
  • Cleanmail OCR
  • Cleanmail CBC
  • Cleanmail Plus OCR
  • Cleanmail Plus CBC
  • Mailsort Light OCR
  • Mailsort Light CBC
  • International Bulk Mail

From 1st January 2010, you will be able to submit postings of the above products which include items that:

  1. have a tolerance of up to 25mm where envelope flaps do not have to be gummed or sealed on the right and left edges.
  2. are one-piece mailers (items that are folded from a single sheet of paper) for OCR products.
  3. have a window on the reverse of the item.
  4. have perforated or tear off strips.

Please refer to the MS120 & MS700 chapters of the Mailsort User Guide for full details and design requirements.

From 1st March 2010, Royal Mail will also be reducing the minimum size for OCR envelopes (for the OCR products listed above). The minimum permitted size will change to 140mm x 90mm from the current permitted size of 140mm x 110mm. We therefore advise customers to use the smaller size PPI design of 14mm x 35mm in order to meet our clear zone requirements in the OCR specification.

Please note that Royal Mails specifications for OCR and CBC products have not changed and these enhancements are in addition to the published individual product requirements.
